Tapada do Chaves, Soc. Agrícola e Comercial, S.A.

Tapada do Chaves is located near Portalegre, in the Upper Alentejo. The estate has been producing some of the best Portuguese wines for nearly a century.

Tapada do Chaves enjoys exceptional soil distinct from that in the rest of the Alentejo. It lies on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede, a granite massif that confers unique qualities to the soil.

The Vineyard and the Wines

The vineyard is planted with vines ranging in age from 15 to 85 years. The grape varieties are Trincadeira, Aragonez and Castelão for reds, and Fernão Pires, Arinto and Tamarez for whites.
Tapada do Chaves wines are reminiscent of the warmth and the softness of the Alentejo region. For many years, the red was available only to a small group of wine lovers. Gradually, however, it gained renown and today it is amongst the most sought-after by wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Wines are made using traditional techniques and the proportion of the each grape variety in the blend is decided with great care. They are then aged in Portuguese and French oak.

Tapada do Chave red wine has regularly received national and international recognition as has the white.
