About 35 years ago a young german man full of energy and passion arrived in Portugal with the crazy idea to select and catalog the portuguese wine varieties. He discovered quickly that in addition to the diversity of about 300 different varieties, Portugal possessed some very special not-previously-known varieties which had great potential. With the arrival of his daughter Dorina Lindemann 20 years ago, the foundation for their winery was built. As a studied and passionate winemaker, Dorina is today the ambassador for 3 exceptional wines from Portugal. With unyielding passion and effort, she has succeeded in bringing out the special characteristics of these varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca.
Our main brands are: Marquês de Montemor, Plansel Selecta, Dorina Lindemann and Family Estate.
The winery, located 100 km south of Lisbon, currently produces two different labels – Marquês de Montemor and Plansel Selecta. From approximately 65 hectares under cultivation, the winery produces about 350,000 litres of wine annually, of which some 20% is white and 80%, red. Portuguese wines are known for their cuvées, but the Quinta da Plansel focuses primarily on monovarietal wines. Doing so allows the true potential of the grape to be revealed, as is the case with the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca, often used to produce our top wines.
The modern winery is equipped with rotary fermenters and stainless steel lagares (low tanks) for making red wines. White wines are made in steel vats under refrigerated conditions. The winery includes other specific areas, one for the production of traditional-method sparkling wine, another for barrel ageing and another for bottle maturation.
