History

Marcolino Sebo is a family business active in the grape growing business since 1975. For more than 25 years, the firm concentrated on growing grapes for sale to the Adega Cooperativa de Borba – the local cooperative cellar. But then the owner, Marcolino Sebo, began to increase the size of his vineyards with the idea of setting up his own winery.

He now owns 130 hectares, spread amongst six vineyard plots on calcareous-clay and clay-schist soils lying between Borba and Estremoz.

The winery is housed in a modern building with distinct Alentejo characteristics and combines state-of-the-art technology with traditional methods. Sixty vats of differing capacities make up a total capacity of 1,400,000 litres.

The company´s staff ranges from the workers in the vineyard and winery to the sales team without forgetting the work of the winemaking team under the tutelage of engineer Jorge Santos.

The company focuses on producing Alentejo PDO wines. These wines represent around 65% of the current production and are marketed under the labels Visconde de Borba (Garrafeira, Reserva, red, rosé and white), Quinta da Pinheira (red) and Marcolino Sebo – varietally labelled wines made from Aragonez, Castelão, and Trincadeira. A PGI Vinho Regional Alentejano wine called Monte da Vaqueira (red and white) is also made, accounting for 35% of the production.
