Wines of Alentejo launch campaign to support producers and restaurants in the region
The Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA) has just announced the launch of the initiative “Today it's on me”, a campaign that aims to simultaneously assist wine producers and the region's restaurants. The objective is to promote the consumption of wine, in the context of requests for delivery of meals at home.

The participating restaurants will define, every week, the menu for the initiative, selecting a dish from their menu and harmonizing it with a bottle of Alentejo wine from their menu. For each order on this special menu, a second bottle of wine will be offered by a wine producer in the region.

In this way, the intention is to change the consumption trends that have been verified, promoting orders for wine on delivery; bridge the drop in wine sales at the national level; to foster the relationship between the restaurant and the wine-growing economic agents; and take the Alentejo home with distinct brands, demonstrating the versatility of the region.

Francisco Mateus, president of CVRA, explains that “by offering a different bottle than the one the consumer has chosen, we will be introducing him to new wines and allowing that producer to establish a fruitful contact with a restaurant in which he did not yet sell the wine. your product. It is an initiative that, in the long term, we hope to see result in a greater volume of sales of wines from our region and in a greater liquidity of wine companies ”.

The deceleration of more than 50% of wine sales registered in 2020 was motivated, essentially, by the contraction of the activity of the restaurant and tourism, reason why the producers who are dependent on this sector for the flow of their products are in precarious financial situations. .

“We are experiencing an exceptional sanitary situation, the fight for which forced the restoration of the restaurant to stop and the consequent drop in wine sales in restaurants. In Alentejo, we believe that together we are stronger and, for this very reason, we created this simple initiative, which we believe will make a difference in the promotion of the excellent wines and restaurants in our region and that will enable us, together, to face this enormous challenge ” , adds Francisco Mateus.

The initiative kicks off during next Friday, February 19th, and the producers and associated restaurants can be known on the social media platforms of Vinhos do Alentejo.

It is recalled that, under the legislation in force, within the scope of the State of Emergency decree, the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited from 20:00, so all requests made within the scope of this campaign must be prior to this time.
