Monte da Capela

Monte da Capela was set up in 2000 and then went on to purchase the estate of Herdade da Capela and the plot of Santa Luzia, both near Pias, in the county of Serpa.

The vines were in such bad state that it wasn’t profitable to keep farming them so they were immediately restructured. Currently, the entire 55 hectares is planted with vines, mostly in Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouschet.

The vineyards are on poor, calcareous soils, on quite steep slopes. This, together with the grape varieties grown, the growing techniques used, and the climate of the sub-region – which is located on the left bank of the Guadiana River – confer upon the wines their incredible quality and their sui generis characteristics. These wines are rich and concentrated, both in colour and in aroma.
